Specs for a gaming PC (with cost for components)? So I'm looking at building my own machine, not right now but eventually. I've been looking online and decided to toy around and see what I could be looking at as far as price goes. My first setup was about as high-end as I could possibly want and was about $8500. That was a bit steep for me so I re-started and this is what I came up with: (the + in brackets is number of $ it adds to price. building a custom gaming desk , PC? looking for ideas on building a gaming desk for my computer. If anyone has seen the V1 gaming desks that is the idea I'm playing around with here. If not go check them out on there website, there amazing but I"m not going to pay $2000 for some aluminum tubing. I'm pretty good at building things but I trying to figure out different ways to do this. What different type of materials do you think would work easiest ? If you know any web sites that may be helpful? Web sites that I could purchase parts for this desk ? Ideas on the design ? Check out http://www.thev1chair.com/visionmain/bluefront2a.jpg to get an idea what I want to build. I'm not saying it has to be exactly that but something similar I want to build and of course I am going to mount a racing car seat for it but ideas on the frame , materials I could use to make the frame ?

Help me pick out a gaming system from NCIX.? I need a little help. I know next to nothing about computer hardware aside from what internet research I've done in the past few weeks. I want the best gaming system I can get for my money, something that I'll be able to turn max settings on and play with a smooth frame-rate. I am not a hardcore gamer, I'll most likely only be playing Civilization V, Mount & Blade, and the occasional multiplayer FPS with bouts of MMORPGs. Still, I'd like them to perform well. My budget is $1000-1500 (preferably 1200-1300 is the target price range I'd like to hit), but that has to include a decent mouse, keyboard, and monitor. Preferably I'd like a not-onboard sound card as well, but whatever works. Pretend you're shopping for yourself. I'd like a prebuilt system, but they're heavily customizable, just click on one and see. The gaming systems seem to be under the 'gaming' and 'NX fusion' categories. The website is http://pc.ncix.com/ncixpc/ Thanks!

Some interesting PC help here? Please read everything carefully. This is documented and detailed so I can get some help on this. Ok, I've done just about all I can do with this for now so I'm seeing if there is any other options I can try. My boyfriend got a PC from somebody who was simply gonig to throw the computer away. For him the computer would not boot at all, that's when I stepped in and took a good look inside. First of all, the PC is a Sony PCV-RX560. At first with what my boyfriend had told me I thought it was just the power supply. But when I get the computer home, I take it apart since he mentioend it may not have a hard drive. So I open the little monster up, and there's the hard drive sitting inside... Thought it wasn'ta ctually mounted inside, it was just sitting on a bunch of the wires but still connected to everything. I mounted it back inside properly then attempted to boot the PC. On the screen, I got the error "Recovery failure, please insert system recovery disk". Unfortunately I do not have any recovery disks fo this, nor can I find any online to download. SSo instead I tried to just install windows with one of my own disks. When I tried opening the first disk drive, it wouldn't open. I even tried opening the disk drive with a pin but no luck. Lucky for me there was s econd one. So when I opened that I found a Campaq Windows XP Home Edition recovery disk inside... HUZZAH FREE RECOVERY DISK FOR MY COMPAQ COMPUTERS! Anyways back to what I was saying... I slipped in my windows XP home edition installation disk and got this problem: Upon trying this it said "Error, hard disk not found. Press F3 to reboot". So I took my disk out, rebooted, then went into the BIOS. The system is not reading the hard drive, period. My thoughts are the hard drive is dead, yet I'm a sucker for not giving up until all possibilities are ruled out. Any ideas on what else I could do?
What will be the best pc build i can get with 1000$? Im trying build a gaming pc and i own a gtx550 right now any help well be graceful.
How do I know if I should buy a full or medium chassis (PC case)? I plan on building my first pc for gaming but i'm not sure whether to buy a full or medium size tower? I don't plan on buying another chassis for a long time that's why I plan on buying a corair because you can't go wrong with they're quality although they're not all lit up with lights and add that extra effect I don't care because I hate plastic especially when i'm paying that much for it.

Need recommendations for a new laptop: mac or pc? I would use my laptop for: 1) writing (which makes me most scared if I get a Mac about the translating between pc and mac word docs which ive heard can be a hassle) 2) music and dvd 3) some online gaming 4) USB and wireless needed 5) I will probably travel a lot with it, taking it to college etc. 6) durability would be nice, my things can get the rough treatment sometimes would you mind expanding on why to avoid macs or a certain comp? Thanks.

WTF!!! Random white smoke pouring out of custom built pc? So, I have a custom built gaming pc with a Raidmax Smilodon Case. Earlier in the day, everything was working fine, but just half an hour ago, when i turned the pc on from hibernate, a heard a pop with a sharp whistling sound, followed by a giant cloud of smoke. Luckily, i was kinda close to the pc, and shut it off in less than 2 seconds. A minute later, the whole house was filled with this horrid smell of melted plastic. At first, i thought it was a bursted capacitor (i did a bunch of googles after this accident), then i decided to put the machine outside in the backyard for an examination. I got a giant fan to blow all the smell and smoke out, and after 5 minutes, i went outside, and almost all the smell was gone from the pc. I unmounted and took out the hard drive, inspecting for any short-circuit, and there wasn't any sign of heat or burnt. I then checked the motherboard, and then everything was fine. No short circuits, no bursted capacitors, nothing. I checked all the conponents, and when i checked on all the connectors (for power, 4 pin) leading to the power supply, one of them (leading to the front green LEDS i had on the front of my case, that connection was completely melted. Everything else was fine, and the computer was working for a good 2 weeks now. ( i recently built it from parts online) The missing part to all of this is: I had NO faulty connections. I made everything was properly plugged into the right place, and that there were no short circuits anywhere. The burnt part is one of the connectors, leading to the leds on the front of the case (as i said earlier), and/or the front intake fan. What strikes me is that: this pc isn't bought. I built it from parts. THe burnt wire and connector are part of the CASE, when the case arrived in a box, that wire was part of the case. I bought this case and almost everything of the computer from Amazon. Would i be able to get a full refund for the case? or do i have to talk to the company (raidmax) that made the case or do i just talk to amazon ( who has it in stock)? I'm really confused, as i did not do anything that would have caused the thing to burn. (not users fault) what should i do?

Best Setup for 3 monitor display + TV mount (furniture, brackets, etc).? I am redoing my office/gaming/recording (YouTube) setup. I need a desk, preferably L-Shape with room for 3 monitors and a tower PC as well as at least 1 laptop and some external HD's (the book-sized WD ones). The desk needs to have space below for shelving that I can place my consoles on (xbox 1, ps4, ps3, etc) as well as an HDMI switch (minimal space) and some other wiring. I am looking at Ergotech's Triple Horizontal LCD Monitor Arm Desk Stand and think it will do the job of holding my 3 24" monitors. I would also like to mount a 32"-40" TV above the monitors on my wall (or on a stand if theres a 3 wide by 2 tall in the middle column bracket) so I can run cable/satellite and watch my shows while editing. Any tips on designing this? I need a desk first, and was thinking a corner one with the 3 monitors centered on the L bend (90* angle part) so I have room to the left for my laptop and to the right for my tower. As for the TV, not sure how to mount it onto the corner or how well that would work but am open to suggestions. I prefer amazon for most of my buying, but will look at IKEA and other places as well.
How to move a mother board? Ok so i want to upgrade my computers video card, to a gtx 670 but i found out i will need to keep it cooler because my case as of now is a factory case. People tell me it is not a wise idea to keep the same case. So i will need to move the motherboard and all of its components to a new case is this possible and will every mother board fit in any case. And do cases come with fans?

Cooler Master CPU Heatsink? I recently traded my laptop for a gaming desktop. It came with a Cooler Master heatsink for the CPU, but I don't know the model of the heatsink. There's a fan on one side but not the other, it looks like the fan is held on by a bracket. I was wondering if anyone knows where I can get another bracket like that so I can put a fan on the other side. Here is a picture of the heatsink, and I put a box around the bracket that I am talking about... http://tinypic.com/r/s30j2p/5 Ray, if your not going to answer my question then don't bother answering at all. Thanks. I just found a tutorial on how to make my own with zip ties so I think I'll just do that.

How do I install LED light strips inside my home? So I want to put blue led lights behind my monitor so it can match my gaming pc. But what steps do I have to take to do so. I read online and I need a 12 volt adapter(no clue what that is). So far all I know is that I need the the LED light strips and the adapter but can someone make it clear what I need to do and what I need to know. (Does the lights just plug into the adapter and that's it or what) Here's a link of the I'm planning on buying. How many cables need to a TV for home theater? Hi. We are building a house and bought a prewire package to sit above the fireplace for a mounted TV. Wired will be a cable jack, data connection and HDMI connection that will be connected to another outlet in the corner of the room. This corner would also have the surround sound connection and another cable wire. How will we hook up the TV, cable box, DVD, surround sound, etc through the single hdmi that the TV will connect to? We want to make sure we do not need to run any additional wires for the other components (DVD, cable, audio, etc)
What's is the difference in MicroATX and ATX power supplies? I'm turning an old Apple Macintosh 128K into a beefed up PC gaming maching. I've chosen to use a microATX motherboard for lack of space inside the unit. I picked out a video card with a minimum wattage of 450 watts, but they don't make microATX power supplies that large. Is it possible to use an ATX power supply instead?
I need a HD LCD monitor that I can play my XBOX 360 on and also run my Macbook pro 13"? My budget is preferably below AU $350. I am a design student so accurate colours would be good but not essential. I also wouldn't mind speakers, but also not essential and I would like no lag for gaming. Can you guys help me out?
How do you tell how many watts your Power supply has? I was looking to get this graphics card - http://www.bestbuy.com/site/PNY+-+XLR8+GeForce+GTX+650+2GB+GDDR5+PCI+Express+3.0+Graphics+Card/6820159.p?id=1218808243147&skuId=6820159&st=PNY%20-%20XLR8%20GeForce%20GTX%20650%201GB%20GDDR5&cp=1&lp=1 My graphics card now is an AMD Radeon HD 7470 Series graphics card. My processor is AMD APU-5500 My Ram is 16 gb Is there any way I can tell how many watts my Power supply has without opening up my computer? If I do open my computer, where do I look. Thanks for your help!
How to vreate a network? I want to create a wireless LAN network with a house in a different street to me. It is approximately 2 minutes walk to get to this other house. Now creating a wired network is not possible as it would be illegal to have a wire just going across roads and streets. What equipment would i need to create this network? what does each pc need to have and what networks them together?
Can I use a splitter backwards? I have a question to anyone that is savey on the subject. Lets say I have a VCR, Super Nintendo, and Sega Genesis. All of which I want to connect to a TV that only has one Coaxial cable input. Could I get a 3 to 1 coaxial splitter and connect all three devices to the output end (end with 3 coaxial ports) then connect the TV to the input end (end with 1 coaxial port). Would it work out so I never have to push a button on a switcher box and just allow me to turn on the device? I want to use without having to buy a switcher box or manually connecting the device I want to use directly to the TV. I use this scenario just as a hypothetical. The actual purpose for this information is because I want to build an entertainment center especially to hold 16 gaming systems, a desktop PC (shuttle type, that look like a small box), and a home theater system for surround sound and DVD/Bluray playback. I wanted to hide all the wires behind the entertainment center so from the side all you see is one coaxial cable, a set of component cables, and a single HDMI cable that go to the wall mounted LED TV. With the number of different devices, I would have a bird's nest of wires behind the entertainment center which for me just isn't the business. I also don't want to buy a few of those AV Switch Boxes as the number of devices are already staggering. I just want to be able to turn the system I want to play on, change the channel to either Channel 3/4, HDMI, or AV and play without pushing some button on a switch or using a remote to allow the signal of the device to reach the TV.

Windows 7 - HELP?!?!? So... recently I re-installed Windows 7 Home Premium on my computer. I though I had a virus of some sort, and tried to system restore... to no avail. My anti-virus program couldn't help so I decided to try and re-install windows. My brother (Who knows a little about computers) said that a Windows 7 Home Premium re-installation disc would cost about $100, and then, of course, I found one on best buy.com for $109. So I Goggle'd a way to do it yourself (Having some knowledge of mounting and .iso to your drive) and surely enough, found an article on pcworld.com. They had links from digitalriver.com for the .iso, saying they were licensed. So, like an idiot, I decided to give it a try and downloaded the windows 7 home premium .iso, mounted it, ran it, etc... It all seemed to work fine, but once it finished, I had absolutely nothing, no drivers, only the recycle bin, which I presumed normal, I still believe it is and my friend who knows common problems with computers said all I need is a hard-wired connection, install the drivers, and I'm good. But when I plugged my Ethernet cable into my router (Tested it, worked fine before) no connections were available... I told my friend and he decided to take a look. He opened up Device Manager and looked at "Other Devices", Ethernet Controller has Code 28 (Driver not installed), along with my Network Controller (It does have a wireless adapter but no drivers, I thought it was nothing) I kept trying to Google it to find an answer. Everyone just says "Uninstall it, restart your computer, and download the driver again." But see... I can't get online to re-install the driver! I made a horrible mistake that I shall never make again but... it's a $1600 gaming PC that I can't afford to lose! Please Help!!!!!!!!! Short version: I re-installed windows from a third-party retailer and can't connect to the internet even with a hard-wired connection. Abiendo Thanks, I will try it right away! I'll let you know how it works. Can't believe I haven't thought of that...

why won't my computer boot up? At first I thought it was the power supply, because right after I started it up it shorted out my battery backup.(I think, I don't know for sure) Then I did a voltmeter test on the motherboard power connector, and discovered it was fine. no connections are loose . . . nothing appears to be burned. what could be wrong? could it be the switch? I got a gaming pc case. Nothing comes on when I start it up. no LED lights, no fans. can anyone else come up with any other ideas? thank you in advance!

I also was wondering do cyber power pc's come pre built in total, not that i have to install some fans or connect the liquid cooling. I trust the company but i have read so many blogs about people running into problems, but i have also seen alot of videos about how people got great experiences with this company. But mainly what i am curious about is if al the parts will match up together, because this is custom right off the site (i chose the parts). I just have a bad feeling that i might be overlooking something.

Warhammer 40K Conversions? Hi I have recently discovered the PC game warhammer 40k: dark crusade, i read into it and bought all of the other games including soulstorm. Then the massive world of modelling apealed to me and i was going to start an army. However, the sheer price is astonishing so I have decided to make a battlefield display, out of seperate smaller scenes, conversions and home-made landscape. I am planning on doing this over a long period and i was wondering if anyone had any ideas? I'm starting on a Bloodthirster which has been captured by agrey knight squad, their inquisitor being a emperors champion conversion. After that would be the chaos attempting to free it. i would like to focus on Khorne but if anyone can share their ideas ( which could involve and race =] ) it would be greatly appreciated.

Anyone familiar with HP vs15 LCD? I bought a new computer over the weekend and made a last minute decision to buy a package deal with HP vs15 LCD monitor. I stepped down a grade from the pc I had planned to get and ended up with HP a1330n. So far I'm not to happy with either. The sound from the monitor speakers sounds cheap, monotone, and not very loud. The speaker wire runs from the monitor to the main speaker in line on the pc. When I tried attaching a subwoofer and speakers I never could get them to work. IS THERE A WAY to make the sound actually sound like the stereo sound it says it is? Or should I take it all back and buy the a1410n or the a1350n with a seperate monitor, like 17" LCD Viewsonic? Thanks
Building a new computer, and need some help on the hardware part.? I intend to build up a new computer for multimedia purposes. This means both HD video playback capabilities, and High-end gaming capabilities. Optical drives are not a question, I can manage those, however other parts, such as the motherboard, or the graphics card are another question, in which I'm interested in your opinion: What kind of motherboard would you suggest buying, with a processor within already of course, and what kind of graphics card? I would like to buy a Gigabyte labelled equipment, building on my past experiences, and on the part of G-cards, an NVidia one. The costs are not a problem, however I do not intend to go over a 1000€/1500$. Your answers, and suggestions are welcome, and heavily appretiated. Many thanks, and good hunting!

I could use help building my computer...? I am using cyberpower pc. I know little to nothing about hardware, and want to build a computer that can easily play any games that come out in the next few years (obviously there is no way to 100% ascertain that, but for the most part). I am willing to spend ~$3000 because this computer is intended to last for 4-5 years. My "monitor" is a 59 inch HDTV, so an HDMI output is a necessity, unless someone can propose a simple workaround that will transfer video and sound. Will this build acheive my goals? 2. Are there areas where I can spend less? I would like to cut costs where possible. Additionally, I will never be putting in my own video card or touching this hardware in any meaningful way. I don't know what I am doing, and so will not dare pretend to try. I understand building my own computer is cheaper; that isn't happening. Lastly, the games I mostly play, at the moment, are Civilization 5, Europa Universalis 3, and Star Wars: The Old Republic.
