Is my pc underperforming in video games? My specs: Intel Q9400 2.6ghz processor overclocked to 3.6ghz Asus P5K-E motherboard 4GB Crucial Ballistix DDR 1066 with 5-5-5-15 timings ATI XFX 4890 1GB oc'ed to 915mhz core/1015mhz memory Western Digital 500GB 7200RPM hard drive 850w Thermaltake Black Widow Modular PSU In Far Cry 2 with Ultra High settings at 1920x1080 and no AA or AF my FPS are: Average Framerate: 18.77 Max. Framerate: 25.87 Min. Framerate: 14.52 Crysis Warhead with Gamer settings at 1920x1080 with no AA or AF gives me something like: Average Framerate: 24 Max. Framerate:31 Min. Framerate: 16 The overclock on my CPU is pointless, I only did it to prove it was not limiting the graphics card. Are these results really all I can expect out of a 4890? Tom's Hardware puts this cards performance at 66.1 FPS when playing Far Cry 2 at Ultra Settings, 1900x1200 and no AA or AF. http://www.tomshardware.com/reviews/radeon-hd-5850,2433-7.html Hardware Canucks did a benchmark for Crysis Warhead and managed 26 minimum and 37 average fps at the same settings. (resolution 1900x1200) http://www.hardwarecanucks.com/forum/hardware-canucks-reviews/24770-value-meets-performance-hd-4890-cards-gigabyte-msi-10.html I realize both of these benchmarks used overclocked i7 processors and DDR3 RAM vs. my Core 2 Quad with DDR2 and that those should mean some increases in speed, but It doesn't seem like my system should be performing this badly in comparison. I've seen numerous benchmarks comparing the i7s to Core 2s and DDR3 to DDR2 and though there are some decent improvements, they don't really apply to video games. Am I wrong? I put everything back on stock clockspeeds and nothing changed. I went back into the BIOS and set all options to their defaults and BOOM! My games are flying at twice the speed now. :D Thanks a lot for the help! Silly me should have tried that earlier. You rock!

PC Game Running Choppy? I'm not a big pc gamer, but I just bought Fable 3, and I'm having an issue. I'm playing it on my laptop, and the scenes are playing super choppy, as well as the game play. its like some kind of really annoying lag. Is there something I can do to fix this without purchasing hardware? If i need hardware, what should I buy? Also if you could dumb down the technical talk for me, I would really appreciate it.
PC hardware and PC gaming questions? I have 3 question (a lot, I know right?) the first is, is it safe to use a computer with the side pannel removed and a desk fan blowing on the hardware so it doesn't overheat? Second is, would I be able to do some moderate gaming on an AMD Athlon II x4 650 (3.2ghz) for a few months? I would replace it eventually. Last is, is the SAPPHIRE Radeon HD 6770 an okay card for modrate gaming? I don't mind playing on medium settings. Thanks for the help!!!

I just built a new PC and i keep hearing about people who run tests on their hard drives, RAM, CPU's etc to make sure they are working properly, i have never used these programs but think it would be a good idea to do so, any information/suggestions would be great, thanks.

New gaming pc keeps restarting? Hi guys. today i assembled my new pc. i installed the o/s win7 64 bit downloaded my programs and some games. everything was going fine until i tried to play minecraft. the pc restarted. i tried to change settings, run with different compatibility and updated my gpu driver to no avail. i also updated java and allocated more ram. the problem also appears when i try games on steam such as portal and when i try to do a windows index, basically any strenuous activity restarts the pc. the specs are as follows. Win 7 64 bit. XFX radeon hd 6870 asus m5a99x evo 8gb corsair vengeance ddr3 ram 750 watt corsair psu caviar blue 500gb hdd no sdd generic liteon optical drive. the issues are not due to overheating as the components are all running within normal limits. i generated a system health report and the results were shockingly bad; almost every component was running very poorly. i really need help on this, thanks in advance

Is XNA Game Studio capable of really good graphics? Im trying to make a game. I have a mac book pro and i have been making cut-scenes in blender. I cant stand PC gaming so i wanted to make it for xbox 360. What i came up with is XNA game studio. its only for pc so i am saving every penny for a pc. I have played many games and i really wanna make an open world game, third person, a good set of weapons etc. Is XNA game studio capable of fair map size and respectable graphics? i really dont wanna spend all that time learning the software and then find out it wont do what i want it to do. So, is XNA game studio capable of making a game like Just Cause 2, GTA, Saints row, or skyrim? if i can learn the code for it, can xna produce respectable graphics and physics? If not, what program can make a game like just cause2?

The difference between Console and PC gaming.? What is the difference? I've been told that PC games are not really "set in stone" and can be patched every time there is a problem. However console games are not patched but updated? Problems in console games are much more difficult to remove than that of PC games. Could someone explain this to me in greater detail?

cheap gaming pc for guild wars 2? so wouldn't you know it another awesome game is coming out and won't be playable on my punk&% mac... anyways... Computer/game spec checker? I'm looking for a website that you can enter specs into it and it will tell you if it can run a game. Don't say the "can you run it" website please as that website scans your current computer and tells you if it's good. My current computer is not the one i'll be using i am getting a different one and want a website where i can manually enter the specs and see what it says. Specs: processor: fx 6300 3.5ghz GPU: R9 280x 3gb ram: 8gb 1600mhz
Attention PC gamers, I need help building a PC. Can you help? I am a formal Xbox gamer, but I would like to take gaming to the next step. I am new to PC gaming, and when I do play PC games on my own PC, it is very laggy. I am looking into building or buying a PC at an affordable price which is good for gaming. Any recommendations or ideas will help. Thanks a lot. Another thing...my price range is around $200-$400. Is it a good range, or should I increase it? Just know, I am not looking for the fanciest computer, but a decent one for gaming.
Why is GTA4 the only game which seemingly uses a quad core CPU? asking this after seeing numerous benchmarks on tomshardware
PC Hardware Question? Something wrong with PC, messes up on games, a hardware issue. Motherboard: ASUS M3n78-VM Processor: AMD Phenom (tm) 9850 Quad-core (4 CPUs), ~ 2.5 GHZ Graphics Card: ATI Radeon HD 4870 x2 Memory Type (RAM): DDR2 (PC2-6400) 6 gigs. (Windows 7, Gaming Computer). Okay, so i know quite a bit about computers but not as much about hardware as i do about software. To save your time I'm not explaining the computer problem, just need help on getting the right parts for my trial and error plan. I intend to get the same graphics card, but would not mind a better processor/motherboard. It has to be compatible with AM2 socket. Also I'm buying from FRYS so has to be in stock there, once I know what's wrong then I'm fine with ordering off amazon/newegg etc. My motherboard is the smaller type so I can't connect all my fans to it, though that's not a big deal, just want to know if i can get something better than what i have but still be able to use it with my current processor (as i mainly wish to see which specific part needs to be replaced) but as I'm replacing everything besides my ram, i would also like to know what part would be even better for my gaming experience. So i probably need 2 lists here...first i want to replace the processor and see if thats what was messing everything up, if not then the motherboard, if not that then my graphics card. I have a feeling that it may even be more than one part...as i had this issue before and it only got worse in time (probably ruined my motherboard) so those of you who know your stuff please help me out, would very much appreciate it...don't want to spend a lot of time in frys asking/ explaining to tech nerds, but if this isn't solved soon then i probably will have to. I should add, if I get a better part I just want it to be enough to run any game smoothly on maximum requirements. Princess Vana this is probably not a question for kitchen people, I said I'm not new to computers, i even replatformed, all drivers up to date, you completely ignored the question. my power supply is 850 watts, it can't be that... If i try playing a high quality game like Assassins Creed it would play for a bit (3-4 min) then crash (and i noticed it did a second pause few times). And it lasted a little longer when i put quality to minimum..It then gave me a blue screen. And it also use to freeze on me during start up where it says "Windows is starting" then my screen just went black...sometimes my screen would go black but it would still load up to the desktop (so i had to turn off PC completely and give it another try in a minute and until it finally worked). I tried playing Wolfteam and the game has pretty low requirements, so i am able to play it but it would sort of blink once in a while..so I'm able to tell something is wrong. I tried Project Blackout and i had a black line go from bottom up at login screen, then when i get to main menu it was blinking pretty badly..definitely not a playable condition, looked like it was gonna shut down my PC at some point. Forgot to ask, could you give me a link to what processor i should get? Doesn't necessarily have to be in stock for FRYS as this may be a processor problem. Whatever i buy in frys i intend to return and then buy for a cheaper price online.

How come computer games only come with minimum requirements and don't list maximum specifications? I'm asking this because when you bought a game for the pc 20 years ago, there was only one setting for it, and the minimum requirement was the only requirement to play it to its fullest enjoyment. Things change, and then there started to be some variation and they added "recommended hardware". It's just now adays recommended hardware just doesn't cut it to play a game to its fullest, and I just do not understand why a game maker can't just come out and say what it takes for the game to be played that way..
Is there software that I can test game discs with? I was wondering if there is a way to test a game to see if any of the scraches on the disc will affect it at any point in the game. Like a program that'll "test" a ps1 game in my pc's disc drive, or even hardware that can do it. -mainly ps1 games.

How much would a good gaming computer cost to build? I'm not asking for a monster gaming computer that would cost around $3000. I'm talking about a suitable one that can get atleast 45 fps on first person shooters with max graphics. I've seen some good ones for $600, but I'm willing to spend $1000 - $1500.
Why does my computer blue screen whilst playing games? Hey thank you for reading this! The full story: Well basically I bought a gaming PC for Christmas ( A ViBox one ) and have been experiencing some blue screens. It is not due to to overheating since the rig is cold and stays that way for HOURS. When I play Borderlands 2 the computer blue screens, it is a plain blue screen with nothing on it and the only way to get rid of it is to hit the on button. However I know it is not the game since the rig can run ( poorly, but can ) black ops 2 . And it blue screens whilst playing age of empires III. Which is an old game from 2008. I tried to upgrade the drivers but nothing was there to upgrade. I am REALLY not sure on why it won't work. I will be getting a new graphics card next month so it may fix the problem ( a Asus HD 7770 2GB AMD Radeon Graphics Card ) Here is my complete rig: AMD RADEON 6450 i5 processor Quad core - 4gb 4.0ghz p.s could the Asus HD 7770 2GB AMD Radeon Graphics Card run high end games at high resoloutions?

What is the purpose of Java on a cell phone? I just got a Motorola RAZR v3xx, and I noticed that sometimes, for example, when I am playing a game that came preloaded with the phone, a Java sign appears on my phones display. Now, I am wondering, does using Java indicate that I am using the internet on my phone? Because if it does, it'll mean that I'll be spending a lot of money paying for internet charges due to the extensive amount of time I spend playing games on my cell phone. Thanks for your input!

Is there a way to manage audio output between computer speakers and a TV using duel displays? I use two displays. Sometimes my boyfriend will watch Netflix while I game is there a program or setting in windows that I can use to manage the audio output of each program. I know that it is possible because sometimes sounds from certain programs will come out of my flat panel TV speakers and other programs will emit sounds through the computer speakers. However, the PC just seems to randomly assign which programs output to each speaker and I cannot figure out how to change each one individually.

Is it really that much cooler than gaming in "2D" (you know what i mean) and in stereo sound?
If you build your own PC will it have a brand? What if you buy a barebone PC chassis with the mobo that is branded - but still set everything up yourself? Is that technically built by you? Eh... I mean the chassis and the mobo (and PSU) ARE of a particular brand. The remaining devices are separate.
Which Intel® Core™ i7 Processor should I buy for gaming? Hi everyone. I’m looking to build a new PC, specifically designed for gaming. Should I buy an Intel® Core™ i7 Processor (either the 920 or 940), and consider overclocking, or go all out and purchase the Extreme Edition (965)? What problems could I potentially face by overclocking (and what steps can I take to avoid them)? Thanks for your help.

Why does my computer shut off when I play certain games? Why does my computer shut off when I play certain games? My Computer specs are: AMD Phenom2 X4 955 8GB DDR3 1TB of disc space 600watts PSU NVIDIA Geforce GTX 550 Ti Everytime I play hi-end games my computer shuts off by itself. I already replaced my thermal paste, cleaned my heatsink and fan, and I mean really cleaned it, reformatted my whole PC, updated the drivers, it still shuts off by itself. Question for all the PC gamers out there,What would the top ten rules of computer hardware maintenance be? Bought to step up my game to be a more high-end computer gamer. I was curious what the PC gamers consider as there highest aspects of building/mainting a gaming rig. (yes, i do frequently clean my case) Not talking about gameplay or repremanding a nOOb about what a graphics card is, just what do you do to acheive optimum game performance.
Gaming PC Loses Power? System Specs: Motherboard: Gigabyte M68MT-S2P GeForce 7025 DDR3 AM3 MB CPU: AMD Phenom II X6 1100T Black Edition 3.3Ghz CPU RAM: Patriot Gamer 2 4GB DDR3 PC10666 1333MHz (x2) DVD-RW: Lite ON 24X DVDRW SATA OEM HDD: Seagate 1TB LP Serial ATA HD 5900/32MB/SATA-3G Video Card: EVGA GeForce GTX 560 1GB SC GDDR5 PCIe 2.0 DVI Before installing the video card, the system runs fine. The PC was originally equipped with a Thermaltake 450 watt power supply, however when I installed the new video card, that power supply did not have the 2x 6-pin connectors or 4x 4-pin connectors (via 2x 6-pin-to-4-pin adapters included with the video card) required as supplementary power for the video card. I installed an older 500 watt power supply that I had lying around (manufacturer unknown). It also didn't have 2x 6-pin connectors, but it did have the 4x 4-pin connectors so I used this PSU with the video card. After installing the video card, when playing a game (tested Skyrim and Battlefield 3), the games run smoothly at high settings for around 1 minute or less before the system suddenly loses power. I'm assuming the issue is caused by inadequate power supply; so I ordered a more powerful 750 watt PSU which will arrive in a few days. I'm wondering if there is someone out there with the hardware knowledge to either confirm that the PSU is causing this problem; or if it can be caused by outdated video card drivers, outdated BIOS, or if my motherboard could be the problem.
What is wrong with my gaming pc? My custom pc which was very recently upgraded, still does not run at what i believe it should. It's weird, some games like Metro 2033 beat the CRAP out of it on medium-high settings, but the Battlefield 3 beta ran very smoothly on ultra settings with limited (although still noticeable) slowdowns/issues, for example. Stats: Windows 7 pro 64 bit Asus Maximus II Formula mobo (http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16813131319) Seagate 320 gb 7200 rpm hdd Intel Core 2 quad Q9450 2.66 Ghz (overclocked to just under 3 Ghz) 8 Gb Kingston DDR2 1066 Mhz RAM Sapphire Radeon HD 6950 2gb DDR5 Creative Audigy 4 Pro Sound Card Ultra 1000 watt PSU All data connections are SATA 3Gb/s, everything is fully functional and correctly installed (software and hardware wise), so why am i getting rather sub-par performance on games that even my LAST build should have been overpowered for? More examples: Company of Heroes, runs just fine, with extremely mild slowdowns once in a rare while, yet the game's own system stress test comes back rating my system simply average, getting somewhere between 17-29 FPS...which to me is ridiculous given the requirements of this rather "old" game. http://www.specrequirements.com/game/company-of-heroes-tales-of-valor-system-requirements Battlefield 2 Forgotten Hope mod, with settings as high as possible, again runs decent with some noticeable slowdowns, (which ive noticed in more than one game is linked to looking directly into things like smoke effects/plumes on screen if that means anything...its like the camera gets stuck to them and drags through rather than just passing over like any other effect). I'm sure i don't need to mention how unnerving it is to me that BATTLEFIELD 2 is giving my system any problem of any kind. Now, onto what i SUSPECT...I'm pretty sure this is a processor problem. I don't think it is defective...just not the right one to have bought back when i was upgrading a few years ago, and it is becoming more evident now. I ideally would like to upgrade to a much more recent quad core Intel that runs at AT LEAST 3 ghz out of box, preferably one designed more for gaming. That requires upgrading an otherwise fantastic mobo, which then requires buying new RAM (>DDR2) to replace the new chips i JUST bought. Also on the subject of RAM, i've heard that the mhz matters more than the actual memory amount, so it could be the 1066 that's hurting me regardless of the fact that i have 8 gigs of it...but to be honest in my experience (about 6 years) of pc customizing and being the "local tech guy", I've dealt with a lot of memory upgrading for various computers, and to me this issue i'm having doesn't match up to a simple case of skewed mhz:gb ratio... i.e. The 1066 mhz should be just fine when you consider my examples/test games. So long story long, I'm looking for someone who knows more about this than me, the average gamer who taught himself pc building to support his habit, who can help me figure out how to best optimize/upgrade my pc to get/surpass the performance i am expecting yet mysteriously lacking, all while not spending all that much more than i already have this year on pc parts lol A daunting task, but i'm sure someone out there can help me. Battlefield 3 and Skyrim need playing, and i dont want to sully them with subpar performance. Sorry about the gigantic post, just wanted as much detail as possible. Thank you. Help me.
Installing old PC games on netbook, question about performance? I am flying across the Atlantic this weekend and I installed some old PC games onto my netbook to play- The Sims 2 and Theme Hospital. I tested the Sims 2 and while playing the game my battery lasts 3 hours. Will I get more playing time with my battery from Theme Hospital? Theme Hospital is a much older game and alot less demanding hardware wise.
Will this Gaming PC build work? Long story short, house burned down, had insurance, getting new comp for free. So I figured I'd build my own gaming tower this time around, but I've been out of the tech world for a while and want to be ABSOLUTELY sure that all the hardware jives together. It will be foremost a gaming rig, hoping to run games the like of Skyrim, Battlefield 3, WoW, and other high quality games at Maxed or close to maxed graphics at 1080p on a 27'. So enough of that, here's my proposed build: Case: COOLER MASTER Storm Enforcer SGC-1000-KWN1 Black SECC / ABS Plastic ATX Mid Tower Computer Case ATX PS2 / EPS 12V (optional ) Power Supply Mobo: ASUS Maximus IV Gene-Z LGA 1155 Intel Z68 HDMI SATA 6Gb/s USB 3.0 Micro ATX Intel Motherboard Proccessor: Intel Core i5-2500K Sandy Bridge 3.3GHz (3.7GHz Turbo Boost) 4 x 256KB L2 Cache 6MB L3 Cache LGA 1155 95W Quad-Core Desktop Processor BX80623I52500K PSU: CORSAIR Enthusiast Series TX750 V2 750W ATX12V v2.31/ EPS12V v2.92 80 PLUS BRONZE Certified Active PFC High Performance Power Supply RAM: CORSAIR Vengeance 8GB (2 x 4GB) 240-Pin DDR3 SDRAM DDR3 1866 (PC3 15000) Desktop Memory Model CMZ8GX3M2A1866C9 Graphics: EVGA SuperClocked 01G-P3-1461-KR GeForce GTX 560 (Fermi) 1GB 256-bit GDDR5 PCI Express 2.0 x16 HDCP Ready SLI Support Video Card Extra Liquid Cooling: CORSAIR H80 (CWCH80) High Performance Liquid CPU Cooler Burner: SAMSUNG CD/DVD Burner 22X DVD+R 8X DVD+RW 16X DVD+R DL 22X DVD-R 6X DVD-RW 16X DVD-ROM 48X CD-R 24X CD-RW 48X CD-ROM Black SATA Model SH-222AB - OEM And running Win 7 Home Premium. And If anyone has a preferance for thermal paste I'd like to know. A sidenote; I plan to test the waters with OCing wth this rig, after a boatload more research, I've read the 2500k should produce good speeds, will my PSU/ other components handle a little OCing? Thanks in advance for the help! Daniel

Is there a software in existence that can test the compatibility of newer PC games with my older computer? I have an older computer, and i was wanting to play some of the newer games, and i just thought instead of going through all the games, there was software that could automatically run diagnostics on my hardware to see if i would be able to play some new games
My first budget gaming PC (revised from yesterday's question)... Any thoughts or suggestions? Here goes... Bear in mind that the hard drive is spacious enough to accommodate my needs and wants. I don't plan on cramming my hard drive with 500 gigs of trashy clutter (videos, pr0n, and all the fun stuff). I keep my hard drives clean and organized. Here we go. Motherboard: BIOSTAR H61MGC LGA 1155 Intel H61 Micro ATX Intel Motherboard. I know it's cheap, but according to Intel's website, it'll be able to handle Ivy Bridge processors when I need to upgrade. I also don't plan on running crossfire or SLI. Memory: Cheap, $23 g.skill memory -- 4gb DDR3 @ 1333. Pretty standard stuff. GPU: HiS Raedon HD 6870 1GB. PCI-E 2.0. ($170) CPU: i3 2100k @ 3.1GHz. 3MB cache. ($110) PSU: Corsair Builder Series CX500 V2 500W ATX12V v2.3 80 PLUS Certified Active PFC Power Supply. +12 volts @ 34 amps. Single rail. PCI-Express Connectors: 2 x 6+2-Pin. SATA Power Connector: 5. NOTE: After several benchmark tests, I'm fairly certain 500 watts is more than enough power to accommodate the hardware in this build. There's about ~70 watts of headroom from the benchmarks' recommended wattage, so I feel like I have enough headroom. ($60) Hard Drive: Western Digital 250 GB Caviar Blue SATA 6 Gb/s 7200 RPM 16 MB Cache Bulk/OEM Desktop Hard Drive. ($65) Again, I don't need more than 250 gigs. Case: Rosewill Blackbone Black Steel case. Comes with 2 x120mm fans in the front and rear. ($40) Optical Drive: Generic, cheap DVD-R / RW drive. Salvaged from my old computer. -- A few side notes... 1600 frequency RAM seems to offer negligible increases in performance from what research I've done. I think I'll stick with slightly cheaper 1333 memory. I'm a little concerned about CPU / GPU bottlenecks in my build for certain games, though.

which ram and graphics card fits my pc? my dad recently bought a pc(and not knowing anything, just bought the cheapest fastest he could find).well luckily, his choice was not bad as the ghz of the machine is 3.1 GHz dual core.the bad thing is that the graphics card is absolutely horrible.its better than nothing, and lets me run many things (like alliance of valiant arms and league of legends.among many others)but stops at games like shogun 2 total war,and teamfortress 2.this is my pc http://www.emachines.com/products/products.html?prod=EL1352-01e although its an e-machine it runs rather well and has rather good technology. in fact all of my hardware passes test for games on sites like yougamers and systemrequirementslab.all except my gfx card.some info on that site is wrong, like the processor.any wrong info on the site i will post below processor: AMD Athlon II x2 255 Processor 3.10 GHz RAM:4.00 GB (3.75 GB usable) the pc has 2 more slots for ram,but i want to know which one fits before i buy more.i want to bring it to atleast 6 GB. if you need anymore info just tell me.also, please don't give me anything too expensive.the more expensive, the least likely it will happen ^^ thank you :)
HELP!!!!! pRoblems with 3D accelerator for playing PC games? Everytime I install any PC games, I can't play the game though I installed it succesfully. The screen just go black then an error pop up will appear. I tried to explore the help and support on the CD, provided in the game, and it is instructed there that I should try to go to "RUN" and type "DXDIAG" then a window of DIRECTX diagnostic tool appear, and there I saw the problem with my video card. It says: 1. The system is using the generic video driver. Please install video driver provided by the hardware manufacturer. 2. To test DirectDraw functionality, click the "Test DirectDraw" button above. 3. Direct3D functionality not available. You should verify that the driver is a final version from the hardware manufacturer. What should I do?? Are there any possible website that I can go that can provide any software that I can download to be able to run my video card properly??
I'm a hardware newbie, can I get Help diagnosing and fixing my PC's DVD Disc Drive? As stated above, I'm something of a hardware newbie. I'm adept at software - but not really hardware. My DVD drive is having some majour issues, and I will describe the problems I am having in detail - and I would very much appreciate it if someone can help me figure out what may be wrong with the drive, and help me on how to fix it. If given proper instruction I can work with hardware, but I'm not adept enough to figure it out on my own. If it helps, I was able to look at my PCs receipt to get the specifications of the drive: Sony Optiarc AD-7240s ATA device 22X Dual Format/Double Layer DVD±R/±RW Anyways, I first noticed the issue on Wednesday. I was going to watch my BTTF trilogy set on my PC, and when I tried to open the drive it did not respond. I pushed it again and nothing happened, but after about 30 seconds it very sluggishly came out. I put the disc in and went on like normal. However, about an hour and 20 minutes or so the movie froze. I just assumed it was the disc - it was an old set (2002) and had been used, so I just cleaned the disc and then used chapter select to find my place. Worked fine. However, it did the same thing with the second disc - and then the third. I found it weird that it would be the discs themselves at this point. To test it out, I put in a different DVD and let it run while I was out. When I came back to check if it had run the movie properly, I noticed it had frozen around the 1 hr 20 min mark again. I restarted the movie but didn't use chapter skip, and just let it play while I went on with my business. Came back, it was frozen at 1 hr 20 minute in that area. I then tried the same thing on my PS3 (My only other DVD player) and it did not freeze. It's like the drive only wants to work for that amount of time. If I use the drive frequently, it works smoothly going in and out - but after a days time, it always has that delay where it sluggishly comes out about 40 seconds after pushing the button. It seems to read games just fine, but I have now learned it doesn't like to copy data. I bought a copy of CrySis 2, and after taking about 20 minutes just to get to 5%, it gave me a disc read error. The disc is absolutely brand new and I tried it to install it on my laptop, and the instillation went just fine so it isn't a defective disc. I also got a disc read error when trying to copy a music CD to my computer. When I tried burning a music disc, it seemed to work fine, however when I played the music disc back in my cars CD player as well as my PS3 - the audio didn't sound right and some of it refused to read. I have tried using a lens cleaning CD, and I have dusted my computer thoroughly; which is something I do regularly anyways since we live in an old crappy house full of dust. There doesn't appear to be anything that has been spilled onto the drive or computer, which makes sense since I don't EVER have drinks or sticky/greasy foods when using my computer but I thought it was worth making sure. The drive isn't very old, nor is my computer. I got it in March 2010.
Is a video card important for playing pc games? I am trying to see if i Can buy NBA 2k10 for the PC to play n my laptop. Before I purchase this game I have been looking to see if my laptop will be able to run this game properly. I went onto the website CAN YOU RUN IT? ON that website, you can choose the game that you want to run a test on to see if your computer reaches the minimum system requirements in order to play the game you want. These are the results I got when I tested out NBA 2k10 on my PC NBA 2K10 System Requirements Lab Analysis Sorry, your computer does not meet the minimum specifications required to run this product. How much can ram improve gaming? I just recently bought a new video card, a 7600 gt, i know its no 7900gx2, but its just to get by until direct x 10, well i gotta dual core pentium d 2.8 ghz and IGB off daul channel ddr2 4200 ram. Now iv noticed that most pcs that sites test performance on have at least 2gb, although im satisfied with my results, i still wanna increase my fps. How much performance can i gain with an extra gig? With two more gigs (totalling to 3gb of ram)? And my pc was prebuilt (last time i buy a prebuilt one), i heard that these rigs (unless an alienware or xps) have bottlenecks or somehow limit the potential of my hardware? Does anyone know how to fix this? Thanx
Is my PC over heating? hi i have a bit of a problem with a loud buzzing type of beeping noise that happens at random times only when computer runs games or the pc is under high cpu usage.... i sort of thought it was from overheating so i downloaded speedfan and had a look... it shows both of my hard drives are over normal temperature and a few temp 1's are running around 55-60 degrees on idle.... I downloaded Hwmoniter and recoreded the tests: CPUID Hardware Monitor 1.1.4.0 ----------------------------------------------------- Mainboard VendorAcer Mainboard ModelF671CR (0x179 - 0x4F6040) Hardware monitor ----------------------------------------------------- ITE IT87 hardware monitor Voltage sensor 01.30 Volts [0x51] (CPU VCORE) Voltage sensor 11.78 Volts [0x6F] (VIN1) Voltage sensor 23.38 Volts [0xD3] (+3.3V) Voltage sensor 34.97 Volts [0xB9] (+5V) Voltage sensor 411.90 Volts [0xBA] (+12V) Voltage sensor 5-4.54 Volts [0x47] (-12V) Voltage sensor 6-4.67 Volts [0x49] (-5V) Voltage sensor 74.95 Volts [0xB8] (+5V VCCH) Voltage sensor 83.15 Volts [0xC5] (VBAT) Temperature sensor 057°C (134°F) [0x39] (TMPIN0) Temperature sensor 142°C (107°F) [0x2A] (TMPIN1) Temperature sensor 225°C (76°F) [0x19] (TMPIN2) Fan sensor 01795 RPM [0x178] (FANIN0) Dump hardware monitor LPC Register space, base address = 0x0290 Hardware monitor ----------------------------------------------------- ACPI hardware monitor Temperature sensor 062°C (143°F) [0xD18] (THRM) Temperature sensor 142°C (107°F) [0xC50] (SYST) Dump hardware monitor Hardware monitor ----------------------------------------------------- SAMSUNG SV0602H hardware monitor Temperature sensor 065°C (148°F) [0x41] (HDD) Dump hardware monitor Hardware monitor ----------------------------------------------------- WDC WD400JB-00ETA0 hardware monitor Temperature sensor 033°C (91°F) [0x21] (HDD) Dump hardware monitor Processors Map ------------------------------------------------------------------------------------ Number of processors1 Number of threads2 Processor 0 -- Core 0 -- Thread 0 -- Core 1 -- Thread 0 Processors Information ------------------------------------------------------------------------------------ Processor 1 (ID = 0) Number of cores2 (max 2) Number of threads2 (max 2) NameIntel Pentium D 805 CodenameSmithField SpecificationIntel(R) Pentium(R) D CPU 2.66GHz PackageSocket 775 LGA (platform ID = 4h) CPUIDF.4.7 Extended CPUIDF.4 Core SteppingB0 Technology90 nm Core Speed2666.8 MHz (20.0 x 133.3 MHz) Rated Bus speed533.4 MHz Stock frequency2666 MHz Instructions setsMMX, SSE, SSE2, SSE3, EM64T L1 Data cache2 x 16 KBytes, 8-way set associative, 64-byte line size Trace cache2 x 12 Kuops, 8-way set associative L2 cache2 x 1024 KBytes, 8-way set associative, 64-byte line size FID/VID Controlno FeaturesXD Display Adapter(s) ------------------------------------------------------------------------------ Device number0 NameRadeon X1300/X1550 Series Vendor ID0x1002 (0x174B) Model ID0x7146 (0x840) Revision ID0x0 Hope tht sort of helps hehe i dont know if its overheating or what just need some advice...
Can I run it (PC Games)(Mass Effect)? So I really want to play games like Fallout NV and RE5 on my new Laptop, but according to Can You Run It, I pass every recommended area except the video card. For example, here are my stats for Mass Effect Graphics (again, I passed recommended for everything else) Recommended: ATI X1800 XL series or higher, NVIDIA GeForce 7900 GTX or higher You Have: Intel(R) HD Graphics Family I don't really know how to translate that, but I assume that is where I don't pass because Features: Recommended attributes of your Video Card Required You Have 3D Yes Yes Hardware T&L Yes Yes Pixel Shader version 3.0 4.1 Vertex Shader version 3.0 4.1 So would I still be able to play Mass Effect? I have similar results for other games I have tested, so is it safe to buy a game and I'll be able to play it? Thanks.
PLEASE ANSWER - CALLING ALL HARDWARE WIZARDS - SYSTEM SPEC COMPARISON - NEED TECH WIZARD KNOWLEDGE! PLEASE!!!? These are for comparison. I have seen many reviews and though AMD are cheaper and perform well some say that the Phenom II’s can hardly compete with even the Core 2’s. Though I don’t trust these statements entirely as I’ve seen benchmark tests and the Phenom II X4 955 comes close to the Core i7 920; sometimes even surpassing it in real test environments. Here I will lay down the systems I have pre-built using http://www.pcspecialist.co.uk. I’m looking for a system that will last 5 or more years. Is reliable, over clockable, good value, powerful, upgradeable and will be very adequate for gaming. If anyone can make a better gaming rig with my £950 budget you are more than welcome to try on http://www.pcspecialist.co.uk. Sometimes when it comes to the motherboard I wanted 3 way SLI or Crossfire, over 2, because I know it’s more future proof…. But then my original AMD decision was DDR3 and saving money in the intel area means going back to the more soon-to-be obsolete DDR2. With Triple Channel DDR3 on the i7's here and increasing speeds there, it is only a matter of time before DDR2 succumbs to the same fate of DDR. Here are each of the three system specs. Remember you are more than welcome to build a system on pcspecialist and e-mail me through Yahoo Answers but this must be based up to NO MORE than £970 GPB. Risky stuff. I kept the extra cooling methods but due to the increase in Intels CPU pricing and the motherboards support for their chipsets I had to decrease the hard drive back down from 640 to 500gb. I also had to opt for no sound card and put up with the onboard “flat” sound. Here is the newest revision (3rd). Still in DDR though. I have more common sense than your entire family. Anyone who has witnessed this comment report this as illegal. Thank you. I guess I cannot afford a Core i7 then. Well I can but I'll have 3gig ram instead of 4 or 6. A crappier card, a 250gb hard drive and no blu-ray player. I effin hate computers. :(

Problem With Video Card While Gaming.? Thank you for helping. To start things out, I'm way more of a Software type guy, then I am Hardware, so I don't know much at all what the problem could be. My PC runs games just fine, and I only run across this problem once in awhile. Example: When I'll play Halo PC, sometimes the sound goes completely mute, whenever I fire bullets, they're black pixels, and whenever they hit the wall or something, it leaves a spinning white pixel. That, and, the explosions are a mass of pixels. Also, whenever I close out of the game, my screen resolution is really really big, sometimes slanted (easily fixed though). I can play it like that for awhile until it crashes and shows me this message.: Direct3D 9 test results: Failure at step 8 (Creating 3D Device): HRESULT = 0x8876086c (error code) It also showed a similar notice message to the above: Something about my screen resolution not being supported, yet I played the game with that screen res for hours. Wow, no idea how to reply. Anyways, I ran out of characters so I couldn't put much. Name: Radeon 9200 Manufacturer: ATI Technologies Inc. Chip Type: Radeon 9200 AGP (0x5961) DAC Type: Internal DAC (400mHz) 128mb Current Display Mode: 1024 x 768 (32 bit) (60mhz) This isn't really a HUGE problem, but it'd be nice to be dealt with. Like I said, not good with drivers, hard drives, etc. I just got this computer about a month ago, it's way better than my previous PC, so I have to stick with it. Funny thing is, after I restart, it lets me play again. But It'd be really nice not to have to restart every time this happens. Here's what the current error says when I try and open Halo. A problem occurred initializing Direct3D. Hardware acceleration maybe disabled, please run DXDIAG. Well, I ran DXDIAG, and it had everything enabled so..
PC takes multiple times to boot. . .? Well after 24 hours (Sleep + school) I turned on my pc for some games and revision but it wouldn't turn on properly, second try, lights and fans come up, not input, I check my hd 5770 and ram, it's fine, cpu is fine, tested psu in another pc, completely fine - it takes me 3 or 4 tries till I can start the system up, the northbridge feels hot, bios says motherboard is 35C, I moved my side panel intake fans to exhaust on top recently as I'm going to receive my 140mm fans later this week for the side panel. . . I finally got into windows with the speaker beeping for a good start up (AMI) and what happens? "Nvidia Nforce 7025 drivers could not be installed", sata RAID still somewhat works, Ethernet works, sound works - all onboard, video works from onboard. . . I'm sure the cooling is adequate, I tried using a small 40mm fan to intake fan onto the heatsink of the northbridge, it's temp dropped to 32C but still had the start up problem. We've established it's the mobo but what's wrong with it? Northbridge is at a fine temp? How long will this problem persist? http://www.asrock.com/mb/overview.asp?Model=N68C-GS%20UCC - my motherboard ATHLON 640 II X 4 3GHz 8GB DDR3 Kingston ram ( I recently changed this ram yesterday from DDR2 2GB to DDR3 8GB, this motherboard is hybrid and can switch from ddr2 to ddr3, the ddr3 is in the right slots, windows recognises it, it's faster etc so I don't see that being the problem) HD 5770 ASUS 512MB OCZ 500W ModXstream 500GB WD CAVIAR BLUE 7200RPM SATA II coolermaster 430 and plenty of fans, all 7. . . so what's the problem? I can't of esd'd any of the components wearing no sock, grounded with anti static wrist band, wearing all that crap to stop esd so memory being killed isn't right. Bios seems fine from what I noticed. . . Why'd the mobo just die on me? But it's ironic, it happened after installing new ram and moving my intake fan to exhaust, could my northbridge be boiling up but why am I not crashing etc? What on earth? Bios corrupted? Help? My knowledge of hardware is good but my knowledge of programming and software is not very good so I dunno if it's the bios or not - I don't want to test right now. . . Any ideas?
My Toshiba laptop's screen is not clear. When I turn on the computer, I can see faint picture on the screen? I tried doing the PC diagnostic test and then it said: Bit block transfer test failed. This may be due to video memory, video hardware or video driver. Just right now it's working fine, I am scared it might fade again. Does it have anything to do with the pictures or video games I downloaded? Please help, how do I fix this?

My PC wont detect external HD? Its USB 2.0 (650i Sli Mobo), I tested on both Main (XP) and on Laptop (Win7 and Mac OS X) Its not old, its hi-end hardware for gaming (E8500, 295GTX, 4 GB RAM and what not..) I just bought a 1TB external HD. The quick setup guide says to simply plug it in and it should appear in My Computer, but it doesnt. (Its via USB by the way) I tried on XP Pro, Windows 7 (new install) and Mac OS X, none detects it. I tried looking in Disc Management but its not listed when its plugged in. Any suggestions on what I can do? Or must i simply return it. This is the product: http://www.amazon.co.uk/Verbatim-Desktop-External-Hard-Drive/dp/B0017422EA
Better OS for gaming and media? I use Win7 32bit and it's not bad except I've turned off file indexing and now find it runs a bit slow when using media player or some other apps. I also use Win7 64bit, but I find when looking for 64bit drivers, it to be very painful if not impossible. Where can I get the 64bit Win7 drivers I need to run my hardware? If I cant get proper drivers, what are my options to get Win7 64bit running sweet? Will a 32bit tried and tested driver work with Win7 64bit? (Sounds dumb I know!) Is it worth running Win7 64bit, or will it just give me more probs than pleasure? I only installed Win7 64bit coz' I was told my pc specs would run my games and media apps heaps better. Sounds great... but I need the drivers. AMD Phenom II X4 965 BE 3.4 GHz 4GB DDR3-1600 MHz (Max 16GB) ATi HD5850 1GB ... can run 2nd GPU (CrossFire) ... but single GPU cranks. LG 42'' HD LCD 650w PSU Better OS for gaming and media with above specs? Thanks for advice.

Graphics issues cause: hardware or software? When I run Half-Life 2 Episode 2 i notice some graphics issues: first thing I notice is the reflections in the water, they are reflecting a still image of mountains and depending on where I look, this image can repeat many times (kind of like a trailing effect). Another issue I noticed is the raytraced shadows (the real-time shadows you see with flashlights in the game). They are fuzzy and pixelated, in that, they almost have a glitchy mosaic quality to them. As I moved on, I got to an area with a lot of water, jumped in, and as I descend the screen will briefly freeze with the image of the reflection (right before I descend) and when I come up the water level will change a bit (for a split second) before adjusting itself. Update: Just tried it now and the 1st reflection issue and the shadow issue seem to not be there anymore, and the raytraced shadows aren't as pixelated around the edges. I'm starting to think that's normal. The console will occasionally show errors when it tried to load or do something with the game (sprites, cubemaps, etc) so is this an indication of software graphics bugs? I don't seem to notice any issues in other non-steam games (I will occaisionally get the reflection issue with CS:Source) and I don't seem to have any other graphics problems outside of games (as in normal PC use, browsing the web, photoshop, etc). I did a stress test with Furmark to see if I could break it, and it was fine, didn't get above 89C at full load with furmark for like 5-10mins. I'm tired of seeing little video issues on my computer, it makes me wonder if I have a bad video card. My card is an NVIDIA 8800GTS 640MB. Are there any ways to tell FOR SURE if you have a bad graphics card? Do these sound like software or hardware issues? Additional Specs: Windows 7 2gigs ram, 500 G hard drive, DirectX 11
Best Online Retailer for PC Components in the United Kingdom!? I live in the UK, and though I've never built a PC before I am willing to build myself a £900 gaming rig, with a good processor and graphic card, good memory and a blu-ray player. I have been on some UK websites and wow the prices are good but then I hear things like, "their after sales server is terrible". For example, overclockers.co.uk has great prices but they're considered "cowboys" and their manager is extremely rude and they spell out continuous lies. That to me, by anyones standard is an utter disgrace. I'd rather have nothing as mentioned of the above. I do indeed want to use a UK website which has good prices, but I also want a website that has good after sales support and if something is faulty will be RMA'd or whatever it's called. Replaced or something? On the other hand. When I went to www.scan.co.uk another surprise hit me. A cheaper MSI 790FX-GD70 AMD 790FX AM3 Socket motherboard even cheaper than overclockers.co.uk however, their RAM was DOUBLE THE PRICE! Can you believe it!? I am not paying 140 quid for Dual Channel DDR3, that is beyond belief! Then came delivery issues, I've read Overclockers.co.uk has disgraceful delivery and coupled with a nasty arse manager wouldn't go down great. Then there is Aria which has expensive delivery. Then there is www.scan.co.uk which requires you to sign up to another website's forum and post 20 or more times (without it being considered spam) to avoid a £20 delivery charge. I want a website which has good prices, great after sales support, good delivery (possibly free) and can have faulty equiptment replaced, and isn't run by cowboys who insult you if you ring up and tell them the faults with your hardware. Is there even such a website or am being unrealistic? This is my first build, and I don't know if it's risky. I will be getting Arctic Silver of some kind and two anti static bands one for myself and one as a replacement or for my father. I know Intel is powerful but it's great at number crunching and when AMD comes along in the gaming arena I've seen in real-life test the AMD Phenom II X4 955 out-beat the Core i7 920. So that's the processor picked. The mobo above amazingly which I found is considered better and giving 5/5 everywhere I've been, every forum member I spoke to says they would pick it over the Crosshair III Formula. So that's sorted. So now it's just time I find a DECENT buyer with good prices, aftersales and delivery. I only have £800-900 - I originally was going to get it pre-built by PCspecialist.co.uk or Arbico.co.uk but it turned out the mobos for selection were absolutely useless. I then decided Intel but the money started adding up. I know this question is long but does anybody have any tips for a noob gaming RIG builder. I'm not good with fiddling things and I'm worried about applying thermal paste to the CPU and heatsink. I'm worried I'll screw it up. Also where else does thermal paste go, could someone list all the places (maybe for this build I will list below) thermal paste will go. Thanks to everyone who answers, I will read your answers shortly, most informative and thorough will get their points. Thanks again. FX - the noob PC builder on a 900 max budget! :D note: Buying In GPB £££ Not Dollas. Newegg.com does not ship to the UK so don't mention it. ;) Feel free to E-mail me folks. Do not IM. I can communicate via e-mail to people on a regular basis so this would be beneficial to the advice I recieve and my gratitude towards you. Dean. I'm not made of money bud. £800 preferably - £900 Max. lol an I'm on AMD for budget reasons but they perform and overclock well compared to the Core i7 920 but is so many 100's of pounds cheaper than the i7's. Remember my budget mate. Edit your answer if need be. Thanks FX I forgot to add the build I want. I'll decide on other components but these are what I will be having. AMD Phenom II X4 955 Black Edition (3.2ghz) MSI 790FX-GD70 AMD 790FX Socket AM3 Motherboard Corsair Dominator XMS3 4GB (2x2GB DDR3 1600CP9 (72.99 on Overclockers.co.uk but was over double on Scan.co.uk as mentioned above, was about £160) ATI Radeon 4890 1GB or ATI Radeon 4870x2 1GB or Two Radeon 4870's in Dual X16 Crossfire. LG Blu-Ray player (Approx £60-70) :) PEACE AHHH that was the one. CCL has the double price RAM. I went on there earlier, their website is useless, they won't win the award for 09 I can bet. Sorry mate, thanks anyway This build is completely from Scratch, from the ground up. This PC I am on is like 5 years old and is useless. This is my first build as well remember. Please take everything said into account this message is long enough already. Thanks Info. I know about System Specifications. I know what's good and what's bad. I'm asking simply about Online Retailers and some advice on building my computer.

My PC craves attention ?!?!? My computer has been acting strange recently, whenever i leave it alone for 5 minutes or more it stops working. well its working when i get back but if i move the mouse it stops responding and i end up having to power it off. it doesnt do this in safe mode which almost rules out hardware issues. it shouldn't be a virus cos i have windows defender and bullgaurd. i have tried system restore to previous dates and it usually works but the next time i start it up it does the same thing. while using it thouroughly it works fine no problems. i spent 4 hours on it testing things (music, movies, games, word documents) and as long as im using it it works. at first i thought it was the hard drive turning off but i checked and made sure in power settings hdd was set to never turn off. it is a seagate ST3500830AS 500GB HDD. i defragment every couple of weeks. im stumped. can anybody help? Why can't I play 3d games on my PC? I have windows vista 64 bit and games I was playing yesterday suddenly don't work!!! So it isn't cuz they don't run on my OS. I've re-installed the newest version of DirectX from their official website released in 2009, and I've re-installed the newest video card drivers for my video card which is an Asus EN9500GT (nvidia geforce 9500GT GPU) I've also reinstalled the games in question having the problems. So that takes care of a game reinstall, a directx reinstall, and a vid card reinstall. This is Windows VISTA so the DXdiag tool does not let me enable/disable/or test my direct3d acceleration but I think that this is the problem in question because -- in 64 bit mode it says that I HAVE direct3d, but in 32 bit mode it says it's disabled. Nvidia control panel gives no option for enabling direct3d, and windows display properties says that I can't adjust my hardware acceleration because my video card/drivers do not support it. (Nvidia wants you to use their control panel) So I'm all out of ideas! No need to mention a full Operating system reinstall, I know that's an option, I just really don't want to take it because I've tweaked my OS now for months getting it the way I want it! No, my card is not fried but thank you.

A site that can benchmark your PC or Laptop for games? for games if you haven't bought it yet? i.e. enter in your hardware, and it will run a test. It would make choosing one SO much easier! for games if you haven't bought it yet? i.e. enter in your hardware, and it will run a test. I already know about systemrequirementslab.com and yougamers.com. I'm looking for a site that doesn't scan your computer, but will let me select the hardware I want it to test(since I haven't bought it yet). And, no. I'm NOT going to click your disguised links lol
How hard is it to become a hacker (advanced programmer and game modifier) at the young age of thirteen? I am thirteen years old, female, and extremely intent on the developing of my skills, of which should help me to become an advanced hacker. I am, and always have been, very interested in learning things; languages, English writing forms, and so on in relevance. I've also always been a fan of video games, with my first ever console being the "Nintendo 64", but, of course, my ownership of one was a long time ago. The past three years have given me the chance to test out and play on the Xbox 360 with an Xbox Live "Gold" membership - I've found that teens and adults acting half their age is, in all honesty, just not worth it; the gaming experience does not come close to overriding the annoying buzz of immature noise in one's ears. It took me a while to find out about the gaming PC and its several, greatly satisfying features, and, since I've recently taken a huge interest in modding, coding and hacking (all of which will contribute to my editing of video games), I'd really like to invest the majority of my spare time (I'm home schooled; I have a lot) in gaining the ability of an advanced hacker. My question to you is, how hard is it to "become" one at the young age of thirteen (i.e. to widely understand and be able to use, read and differentiate various important and lesser important coding languages, to learn hexadecimal, binary, internal/external hardware/system terms, to recognize the meaning behind linux and unix, to understand how to de-bug, and to have learnt about, for example, data, etc.)? I have created a list of more than thirty categorized things to research. Thank you.

Cable modem problem.? Recently my cable modem started resetting itself every 10-15 minutes. This is a big problem as I'm an avid PC gamer. Comcast came out and tested the signal and said it was strong, so they gave me a new modem. Same problem kept happening. So I went and bought a modem of my own from Walmart and although it doesn't reset anymore my ping seems to have jumped up almost 100%. What could possibly be causing these problems? Either A) The signal is faltering and since the cable guy only tested it while it was strong, it looked ok to him. or B) Something is wrong with my networking hardware on my motherboard, however my techy friend said a hardware issue wouldn't be causing the cable modem to reset. Any suggestions?
How do you get Max Pain to work on your PC? Hi... i recently downloaded max pain on my computer. i hav 2GB ram, around 150mb of graphics card, and 2.2GHz processor.. any ideas why it doesnt work... i have windows XP profesioal! MAX PAYNE READ ME Congratulations! Thank you for purchasing MAX PAYNE. This document contains important information about Max Payne, please read it through carefully. Last Minute Notes Bullet Time Aid: The Game Options menu contains a new selection called Bullet Time Aid. The Bullet Time Aid helps players to conserve Bullet Time by automatically switching off Bullet Time when performing a Shootdodge, and prevents the player from accidentally re-enabling Bullet Time during a Shootdodge. Additionally, when you run out of ammo or switch guns, Bullet Time is automatically switched off. Bullet Time Aid is enabled by default. Key Names: The menus read key names directly from Windows. This means that key names will change depending on your localized Windows version. For example with US versions of Windows, the mouse buttons are referred to as MB1 for left and MB2 for right mouse button. System Requirements Max Payne runs on a wide variety of hardware and operating systems. To make sure you are getting optimal game play experience on your system, please make sure Max Payne uses suitable graphical detail level settings for your PC. For more information, please refer to the Options menu tool tips in the game. Will a new video card work? For 2 days ago, my pc got blue screen while playing a Half Life 2 mod called Garry's Mod, and my pc totally crashed. When i tried to boot up again i got blue screen right before the login. After i tried to start in safe mode and i uninstalled my video card i could log in to windows, but before all this my screen got retarded and lots of strange colors (pink, green, blue etc.) whitch eather was the driver or the video card. I tried reformat my pc but it only showed an error at 100% that there was something wrong with a hardware and the formatting failed. Then i go tierd of errors and colors so i opend my laptop and removed and inserted my video card and magically it worked, the colors where gone! Yay! But... When i reformatted my pc (witch worked now) and did all the windows update and avg stuff i started download my steam games. When Half life 2 was finished i tried to boot that game and test it if my pc worked...when the 3D menu finished loading my pc crashed again, and the colors where back, this proved that my video card is dead... So i ordered a new one from ebay. If i replace this card, will my pc work then? My Pc: Acer Aspire 5920g (Laptop) GeForce 8600m gs 256mb Intel Core 2 Duo 1,8 Ghz 3 GB DDR2 RAM What video card i ordered: GeForce 8600m gt 512mb One week after i purchased my pc the same pc come out with the gt video card, just a little more expensive. What makes the problem? - Graphic Card - System RAM - HDD - Another Hardware If you know whats causing the trouble please answer with one of those possible reasons :)

firedog or geeksquad, are they really computer freaks? Have any of you gone over to ask for software or hardware for your computer to firedog or geeksquad and they just don't know what to answer? Or they come up with, "Im going to call the manager" and the manager answers "this is all we have, not sure what ou want" even if you explain with 5th garde words the don't seem to understand. Are they really that smart that they forget what to say or they just don't know crap about the subject? Once I went in to best buy and asked for a good firewall, I didn't need it but I just wanted to know if they knew what a fire wall is. The lady that helped me took me to the pc game section. At least she knew it had to do with a computer. Another day I went in to circuit city, a firedog "technician" helped me. I asked for a hard drive and he gave me the test drive video game. So what do you think has anything like it happend to you before.
!!Help!!Computer won't start. (Self-assembled PC)? I can't start my computer. I have already tested that my monitor is working. The electricity in my apartment went out for about half of seconds, I was playing game (Call of Duty) at that time. I wasn't be able to turning on my PC after that. When I push the power on button, all the fans in my computer start to run, but I just can't see a thing in my monitor, not even the motherboard information in the very beginning, I think there is something wrong with the hardware, but I am not sure if that's the motherboard or the CPU, or something else may cause this to happen. Help me please.
