Build Your Own Gaming PC

Trying to build my own pc for games, small budget. Will this work?

A friend of mine tried helping me build a computer but I know close to nothing about what I'm doing so I was wondering if anyone could tell me if these specs are okay for a cheap computer. Will it run games like Team fortress 2 or Minecraft? I know its not the best but I don't have a lot of money. Intel Pentium Dual Core Processor Geforce GT 220 1GB Dedicated Graphics Windows 7 Home Premium 10 USB Ports (2 front) 2GB DDR2-800 Memory (RAM) 500GB 7200RPM Hard Drive 22x DVD/CD Writer 7.1 high definition audio Onboard Gigabit Ethernet And I believe you can look here for the rest:

  1. I would reccomend a 9800gt if your mainly on TF2 and 4 gigs of DDR3 ram (with a compatible motherbord.

also install avast on it for your antivirus. it has a gaming mode.

  2. Definitely. It will run TF2 and Minecraft.

Don't get the GT220. A 9800GT or 8800GTS is better than that. If you get that instead (and upgrade to at least 3GB RAM if possible or 4GB, 2GB I don't recommend for even running Windows 7-not that it won't work but still), you will be able to play a lot more games that are more demanding than TF or MC. See, some of Nvidia's cards don't necessarily get more powerful with each generation like for example, the 8800 is more powerful than a 9500GT. You would think a 9xxx series card would be an upgrade over a 8xxx but Nvidia does that and tends to rebrand its cards. If you must get a GT series, a GTS 250 (lower price when on sale) or 450 will play just about all games.

The Dual Core is still pretty robust, most mainstream games support it but technology becomes obsolete fast-many are now recommending quad cores. What's more important is the graphics card.

HDD is good, CD drive is good, all computers should have ethernet.

  3. that NCIX PC shop is pretty expensive and you could do better. if your friend is capable to build a computer from scratch it would be cheaper to buy it in separate parts from

    e.g. these

    total: CAD 568

this is less than what you have to pay at NCIX and this PC will be a lot better.
